National Museum in Ulan-Ude
The existing National Museum in Ulan-Ude holds an extensive collection of historical and artistic artifacts but can currently showcase only 5% of its holdings. With the realization of a new, modern project for the National Museum in Ulan-Ude, new spaces and opportunities will emerge for residents and tourists of the Republic of Buryatia to engage with history and art.
Architectural Concept
The design of the museum aims to create a memorable building that reflects the national character, culture, and spirituality of Buryatia.
The building is inspired by a lotus flower floating on the waters of the Uda River. Its layout is centrical, resembling a flower with eight petals: four large and four small ones.
The facade elements emphasize the national identity of Buryatia:
Large Petals: Feature facade details reminiscent of stained glass from Buddhist datsans.
Small Petals: Display symbolic inscriptions in the national language, such as:
- "Heritage of Traditions"
- "History and Culture"
- "Art and Future"
- "Spirituality"
Spatial Organization
The building’s layout mimics a flower, with the center representing the core—a public atrium illuminated by natural light from above.
This design combines cultural symbolism with functionality, providing a space that serves as a modern gateway to the history and heritage of Buryatia.
