Sketch of Russia's Longest River Embankment Presented in Khabarovsk
A concept sketch for the planned extension of Khabarovsk's embankment, stretching from the River Terminal to the new flood protection dam near the Brosko Mall shopping center, was presented to Governor Mikhail Degtyaryov. This was reported by the regional government’s press service and shared on the governor’s Telegram channel.

The idea of building the longest river embankment in Russia was first announced by Governor Degtyaryov last summer during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the current coastal leisure zone between the Yacht Club and the River Terminal.

Background
The idea of building the longest river embankment in Russia was first announced by Governor Degtyaryov last summer during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the current coastal leisure zone between the Yacht Club and the River Terminal.

Currently, the longest embankment in Russia belongs to Samara, with its Volga River embankment measuring approximately 5 kilometers. Gelendzhik has a promenade ranging from 9 to 14 kilometers, depending on the source, but it is a sea embankment. In Khabarovsk, after connecting the hydrotechnical structure in Muravyov-Amursky Park, the Lenin Stadium green zone, and the dam in the Industrial District, the embankment will span approximately 9 kilometers.
Key Challenges and Features
The most challenging section is the 2-kilometer stretch between the River Terminal and the Brosko Mall, which is currently an undeveloped area. Extending the embankment to the flood-protection dam in the Industrial District will require a crossing over the Amur Bay outlet.

Specialists from DVPI and Deputy Regional Governor for Construction, Kerim Sungurov, presented their vision for the infrastructure of this section to the governor.

  • Near Brosko Mall, the project proposes constructing a hill-amphitheater with a viewing platform on top, alongside other recreational zones.
  • Connecting the embankment with the Industrial District dam could involve a drawbridge for pedestrians or a cable transport system.
  • The dam itself is planned to include multi-level viewing platforms, walking paths, cycling tracks, and quiet family recreation areas.
Implementation
The concept for the embankment extension aligns with the region’s unified development strategy and will be carried out in eight stages.

  • The first stage involves preliminary public opinion research, which will begin soon.
  • Simultaneously, engineering and geodetic surveys will be conducted, providing the basis for developing all necessary design and cost documentation.
Project Significance
This large-scale project aims to create a unique sports and cultural leisure space for Khabarovsk residents and visitors. It is part of an agreement with the Corporation “Tourism.RF,” signed during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2022 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Governor’s Statement
"I like the sketch of the future embankment. I’m confident that during discussions, residents will make adjustments and contribute their ideas. This will ensure the concept evolves into something that satisfies everyone without exception," concluded Governor Degtyaryov.
