Overview
The project for the redevelopment of Gagarin Park in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk involves the reconstruction of an existing recreational area. The park, located in the city center at the intersection of Komsomolskaya Street, Detskaya Street, and Altaysky Lane, dates back to 1905.
The project aims to improve, renovate, and restore the park while preserving its established structure and existing greenery. It also incorporates features for year-round use.

Conceptual Principles
The park's design blends historical context with the needs of modern public spaces, creating a synergy between Russian and Japanese cultural elements.

Key Features Unified Park Space
The project connects fragmented park zones, including the exhibition center, event plaza, and swimming pool.
  • All-Season Pool: A modern, open pool will replace the old artificial pond. The existing basin will be reduced by 1.5 times, allowing for the addition of changing rooms, showers, and terraces with sun loungers.

Exhibition Pavilion
The unused roller rink in the park's central area will be repurposed into exhibition pavilions. The architectural design symbolizes the unification of the park's Russian and Japanese halves. The pavilion will host exhibitions, presentations, and public events.

Event Plaza and Amusement Park
  • A stage and a stationary viewing terrace will be installed for performances.
  • An amusement park will be developed nearby.

Children's Area and Pump Track
  • A children's playground and pump track will be built near the utility lines exiting the transformer substation.
  • The substation building will be transformed into a multi-level children's play area with passages and levels, becoming an exciting space for young explorers and a logical extension of the amusement zone.

Fountain of Time
The fountain square will feature the "Fountain of Time," with a stele designed as the hand of a sundial. The fountain's patterns and design will reflect Japanese culture. A musical fountain will serve as a unique attraction for residents and visitors.

Additional Features
  • Parking and Utility Zones: Located in the park's future development area.
  • Drive-In Theater: The adjacent building will be repurposed into an outdoor cinema.

Design Philosophy
The redevelopment preserves the park’s historical essence while integrating modern, multi-season functionality. It creates a harmonious blend of cultural elements and innovative spaces, making Gagarin Park a vibrant hub for the community and a key attraction for visitors.
